DVR Systems

If you are new to it, the world of DVR Video Surveillance can be confusing. On this page we will try to help you understand the basic Why's, and What's of the subject.

So let's start with "Why DVR Video Surveillance?"

There are four basic reasons why most people would want to use any form of video surveillance:

- To help IDENTIFY perpetrators.

- To help PREVENT accidents or wrongdoing.

- To help PROTECT people and property.

- To help OBSERVE processes.

"Who can benefit from DVR Video Surveillance?"

Homeowners can identify who is at the door, check on the baby or check the house if they are away.

Small Businesses can prevent or identify shoplifters or burglars and keep an eye on the business from home.

Sadly, today, employee theft is now higher in retail than customer theft and monitoring retail employees is becoming necessary.

Industry & Research can monitor processes as well as maintaining security surveillance.

Education and Government can keep an eye on trouble spots.

All these things and many more are possible through video surveillance.

"What do I need?"

As a minimum, you will need at least one CCTV ( Closed circuit Television) camera and something on which to display the camera images. This could be a monitor or a TV set (providing you have "video in" jacks). If you wish to record images, you will need at least a VCR.

CCTV Cameras can be Black and White (B/W) or color. Camera lenses have a major bearing on the field of view of the cctv camera. In varying light conditions, an auto-iris lens is probably needed. Vari-Focal (manual zoom) and power zoom lenses are also available. The differences in lenses are explained on the Surveillance Cameras page. More than 1 or 2 cctv cameras require more complex equipment - traditionally a splitter or multiplexer (enable multiple cameras to connect to one recording/display port) and a time-lapse VCR for recording, as well as a display monitor.

However, with today's Video Capture Boards (add-in boards for computers) and Digital Video Recorders (DVRs), the multiplexing is performed by the video capture board, recording is done on the computer hard disk and camera images are displayed on the computer monitor. Recording need not be continuous but can be accomplished only when motion is present in a camera field, at pre-set times or on receipt of an alarm signal from an alarm system. Remote computer users can dial-in via modem, access over a Local Area Network or over the Internet. Now you can observe and control camera views as they are happening! You can see what is going on in any part of your business when you are at home or in other areas of your business. You can even access previously recorded videos.

We strongly believe that these advances in technology offer far greater benefits and functions than the traditional methods of multiplexing, recording and display - benefits that can often be less costly than those provided by traditional video surveillance equipment.

System Support Management manufactures SSMVisions™ Digital Video Security Systems with a unique remote video transmission algorithm designed to meet the enormous loss prevention challenges facing business owners worldwide. All of our SSMVisions™ systems operate as Servers and can be connected to your LAN and/or the Internet. Each comes with Client Side software that can be installed on as many PC's as you like with no need for additional licensing.

Virtually every feature imaginable is incorporated into our truly simple device. The main monitor (Flat Screen) offers the viewer a view of one, four, nine or sixteen cameras. With a click of the mouse you can toggle to the view of choice. Also you may display any view with the Full Screen Mode button (without the side control panels displayed on screen,) thus an edge-to-edge view!

To view previously recorded events, the user simply chooses a date from a calendar graphically displayed on the 17" or 15" Flat Screen Display, selects a camera by number or customized name, chooses a time which is indicated on a timeline-type graph and plays the image instantly at any speed desired (slow, medium or super fast). The playing images can be stopped on a frame with a simple mouse click and played backwards or forwards one frame at a time for an exact view of what occurred. Multiple cameras, up to 16, can be played back simultaneously with the same speed controls. While in review mode, the SSMVisions™ Systems are still recording every event going on in the business!

The SSMVisions™ Systems are also configured with a Motion Alarm feature. When activated, this directs the system to record only when activity occurs within the designated range of the camera.

The motion detection feature may be adjusted to activate on the entire range of the camera or only on partial areas (spotable). This is easily adjusted with the use of the mouse. The motion feature eliminates the need to record and view periods of time where there is no activity, which in turn maximizes productivity when monitoring the system.

Each camera graph displays the exact time of every motion occurred on any day. Each camera can record 1 to 30 frames per second individually. Remote view can be achieved using a standard phone line or high-speed phone service.

Each SSMVisions™ System is built based upon the specific needs of the individual business. All units are assembled with the correct amount of resources to perform with outstanding speed and functionality.

The Windows platform allows for easy software changes and upgrades, while the specific installed video processing boards allow for maximum performance and stability. Stability is a key word when it comes to trouble-free operation of most Digital Video Security systems. Without complete stability, Digital Video Security systems freeze up, stop recording, lose or arbitrarily change settings, and often the end user is not alerted of such occurrences until they attempt to access the recording.

Since we are the manufacturer of the system, if you have an occasional service challenge like a board burping or a storage stymie, our top-quality service professionals are on the job to adjust or replace any component needing attention. This minimizes any interruption of service, and maximizes the performance of your system. Now That's The Way To Protect Your Business!

Shouldn't you have a PC based system, operating under the extremely friendly Windows platform, working concurrently with specific stress absorbing video processing boards? How about having this system installed and serviced when needed by the original manufacturer? How about this same company providing FREE software upgrades for a 5-year period?
